When you were 13 you started to feel uncomfortable with certain features of your body, when you turned 16 you were not happy with your appearance. Even today when you scroll through various social media platforms and see people flaunting their perfect bodies, you feel insecure. Is it ever going to stop? Do we have a solution for it?
The answer is yes! The key is to accept yourself rather than compare yourself with others and feel underconfident the entire life.
First, let's try to understand what is body image and how it holds you back at every step of life and impacts your corporate appearance. Body image is how you perceive your own body and what you look like. Body image can be simulated by society and messaging put out about how individuals ought to see their bodies. According to Horizon Media Study, body image concerns 1-in-5 people in the workplace. It influences the roles you would take on, it keeps you away from putting yourself out there. From interviews to group photos to board-room meetings, it bothers you everywhere. (source?)
What is Body Positivity?
Body positivity goes past what your body resembles physically. It is about bringing change in perception of the society, building self-esteem and confidence, gender equality, physical capability, sexual identity, and much more. Body positivity and body image are not just self-acceptance but self-love instead.
How to Construct Body Positivity?
Body positivity does not resemble neglecting health conditions, one should make a balance between food and exercise. Rather than focusing on the negatives, one should concentrate on their accomplishments and achievements.
- Take good care of your mental and physical health
- do not let negative body messaging bother you
- Practice gratitude
- Track down something every day to express gratitude for
- Feel grateful for having this beautiful life
Remember that change is not always bad if you want to transform your body or appearance, and adopt a better and healthier lifestyle then go for it, just do not be harsh with yourself.
