In a day we all have the same non-refundable and non-renewable time units with us i.e., 24 hrs = 1440 mins = 86400 secs = 86400000 milliseconds.
But still always short of time? Do you ever wish you had more than 86400 seconds in a day? If you compile a list of the items that contribute to your bad time management, you'll come across a monster- Procrastination!
The word ‘procrastination’, comes from the Latin word, ‘Pro’ which means “in favour of” and ‘Cras’ meaning “tomorrow”. Thus, it is defined as “The act or the habit of delaying or putting things off’.
This is the real villain in time management. Poet Kabir said –
“काल करे सो आजकर, आज करे सो अब।
पल में परलय होएगी, बहुरि करेगा कब॥?”
You may keep delaying things but this only means procrastinate now and panic later. One must realize that time management is life management. If you want to succeed in life, you must avoid this credit card i.e., procrastination. Why did I call it a credit card? Because it’s a lot fun until the bill comes. And this bill will put a heavy toll on your success and happiness.
In the great epic " Mahabharata ", while addressing King Yudhishthira, Bhishma said, "the one that provides for the future, and the one who possesses the presence of mind, always enjoys happiness. The man of procrastination, however, is the looser ". Don’t be a ‘loser’ be a ‘chooser’. Choose to be productive! And to be so, you need to be the master of your own minutes. Use your minutes wisely because time is free but it is ‘priceless’. You can never own it but you can use it. You cannot keep it but you can wisely spend it. Once you have lost it, you will never get it back. Since time is non-refundable, use it with intension and be productive rather than just being busy.
Be inspired by Edward Young’s poem: -
Procrastination is the thief of time:
Year after year it steals, till all are fled,
And to the mercies of a moment leaves
The vast concerns of an eternal scene.
Do keep in mind that tomorrow is the day when idlers labour and fools reform, and mortal men seize paradise!
