Corporate to PGDM

MBA is a great opportunity for an individual to boost his career after working for some time in corporate industries. If you are working in any sector be it Information Technology, manufacturing, or construction your scope is limited there. For example, if you are an IT person you will get a job only in that industry but if you are an MBA graduate your scope of getting a good job is higher because after doing an MBA you will not be bound into one particular sector as most of the companies need people who are also equipped in the other fields like that of finance, marketing, operations and HR.

For me, after getting 5 years of corporate exposure, MBA is not just a degree, but more like networking. I believe that in the MBA or PGDM, professors bring their wealth of industry experience and expertise to the classroom and provide a real industry outlook to the students. Apart from this, colleges tying up with various companies to give the access to professional seminars, workshops, etc. provides a student the learning of how to work in real-time along with expanding their network. As a technical person, may be a software developer or a chemical engineer, one has the relevant skills to excel in that field but that is not enough to grow career. You need to have good soft skills to climb up the stairs of success and doing an MBA course, as I see it, is the best decision to learn the soft skills like those of- how to speak, how to write emails and all the etiquettes which are required for good career. Also, being a technical person, sometimes after a certain amount of experience one hits a career plateau. If you ever hit that level, then PGDM will help you move to the management level which is entirely a different skill set.

How I see it is that my life after PGDM will be quite different from the life that was as a normal technical person. It cannot be denied that we work hard to earn more money, at least most of us if not all. A PGDM from a good college, I believe, will give fatter pay checks and incentives throughout career, due to the credibility which will come along with the degree. Almost every one of us wants to be a product manager, delivery manager, zonal manager, and even CEO of a company. My corporate experience has made me observe that if you have an MBA degree you will get those positions in your company.

Now let’s forget about a job, I believe as a person also your life will be changed after a PGDM course. MBA will teach you how to be confident in front of others. Every time in every situation you will not be in favourable conditions, but if you are in unfavourable conditions also you should tackle that. My decision to step form corporate to PGDM, before going back to corporate, came with the thought that it will teach me how to tackle every problem and come out of it with flying colours.

Not only me, but this can teach you everything in life and will make you a better and more mature human being, as well as a well-established professional in life. So if you are currently doing any job, give a thought of pursuing PGDM whenever possible before it is too late. Surely, it will change your life. Life becomes very different in various aspects after pursuing PGDM and I can feel that right from the start of this journey of mine.
